Night Ferry from Koh Tao to Krabi… and Back to the Gulf

Last week I felt like I had enough Koh Tao – even diving sites seemed familiar! I’ve decided to go to Koh Lipe, my favourite island from the previous trip to Thailand.

The entire trip to Lipe was very long, so I’ve decided to stop at Krabi – partially because I could experience the night boat, and for only 800Baht.

The boat was leaving Koh Tao at 9PM. At first, I was given a berth next to an air conditioner, which was a bit cold. Using gestures, I’ve asked the staff to move.

The boat had different types of beds: lower bunks were A or AA, and upper ones were B or BB. If I had to do it again I’d take a B/BB because lower ones are literally on the floor.

They also have double beds (mostly for couples), and singles beds. Single beds are separated by a wooden thing and come in pairs or triples. I was quite disappointed to get a middle berth in a triple section – where I stayed throughout the night despite the boat being only 30% full. I didn’t know there were no stops and I could have taken over an empty double bed on the top!!!

Otherwise, the boat was quite nice, with decent toilets, clean and safe.

We arrived at the port at 4AM, and the bus to Krabi was at 6… Myself and other sleepy passengers spent a few hours at the agency’s office 😦 It was quite tiring.

The worst thing in Krabi (Ao Nang) was the weather. It has been raining non-stop for 2 days! I even wore my waterproof jacket. I’ve checked the weather in Koh Lipe and that wasn’t too optimistic… So, I went to Koh Samui using Lomphrayah service – which has been much more streamlined than this night ferry – minivan, bus, ferry – no wait involved!
